About

Joshua Tripp's travel journal:

This online journal is meant to further extend the awareness, from my website StudyBeyondTheBorders.com, of studying internationally as a realistic opportunity for anyone and everyone interested in personal growth and enlightenment of the world in its entirety. I will post updates of my experiences while on this journey across various regions around the planet. The purpose being to illustrate what is involved in travelling internationally and how realistic it is for any individual to embark on their own global expedition. Thanks for reading and enjoy!

What is Study Abroad?

To reach out and embrace the world around you, even if you have travelled to every corner of the globe, in an academic-based setting has astounding affects. To be subjected within a culture while learning about its diversity, traditions and history allows for once incomprehensible ideas to mature into profound understanding. To walk the streets of local heroes relives their astounding existence and allows for perspective into how similar your life is to their own. As if you demasked a super hero to find that they were no more than your peer but with more inspiration and passion. That is what studying abroad offers any individual, inspiration to achieve greatness beyond personal expectations and the passion to fulfill every aspiration imaginable. Inserting yourself into a detached culture and way of living, alternatively to your own, will facilitate the building of character, fearlessness and power over the mind’s conception of life. As a picture is worth a thousand words, and those words amount to a single experience, you will take with you just as much as you leave. It is not simple taking away from a new way, an alternative standard of living; no, it is about removing oneself from everything known to be life and starting the next chapter in a forever forming story. Studying abroad is about turning the page to discover so much more.

Adrift

adj. Drifting or floating freely; not anchored.

So where shall life take one who is adrift

From the east to the west

Over the north and beyond the south

Where one can never be lost

Yet is never found again

There is no mystery

In a mystery

Because we all know

It is all a wonder in the end.

At times we need to have a rest from ourselves by looking at and down at ourselves and, from an artistic distance, laughing at ourselves or crying at ourselves; we have to discover the hero no less than the fool in our passion for knowledge; we must now and then be pleased about our folly in order to be able to stay pleased about our wisdom!

All In

You got to love that when you love all else is merely a bonus to life. When you have that person there, that encompasses everything you’ve ever wanted and dreamed of in another, it is pretty hard not to melt into a boiling pot of passion and ecstasy. My love goes out to you forevermore because it is you I waited for all along. Mi Amo Per Sempre

Pain is a pesky part of being human, I’ve learned it feels like a stab wound to the heart, something I wish we could all do without, in our lives here. Pain is a sudden hurt that can’t be escaped. But then I have also learned that because of pain, I can feel the beauty, tenderness, and freedom of healing. Pain feels like a fast stab wound to the heart. But then healing feels like the wind against your face when you are spreading your wings and flying through the air. We may not have wings growing out of our backs, but healing is the closest thing that will give us that wind against our faces.

All Along

There is a woman of my past

The memories will last

Her melodies

The songs she sings

Are never meant to pass

This woman of my past

Much more than anyone could ask

What she has said to me

Still pressed against my lips to be

Always whispered back

I cannot believe

What my eyes perceive

As her shadow follows me

Down alley streets

Across the sea

She was never meant to leave

Now what have I become

Her hand seems pressed against my own

Chills run down my spine

As I come to find

She has been here all along

Unwinding Paths

As we look forward in life we forget where we came from; were we designed on an alternative path or does the path change based on where we designate it to lead? Do we find ourselves a victim of fate or on the blunt end of fortune.

Don’t give up just because others gave up on you

Don’t hurt yourself just because others hurt you

Don’t live life for anyone but the one person who you’ll know forever - yourself

Instead just know that you have your own back

That you will always forgive yourself no matter the conviction

Always be ready to jump ship

Because where no one else has been is where you should be sailing the seas.

We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us something is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit.

The Pulse

Could I feel any more

Alive right now my heart beats

Into my chest with such curiosity

I gasp for air to live

As I am so alive

Revived with significance sufficient for a lifetime

But all in a moments time

Overwhelmed with contentment

Never take me off this cloud

This is my home

My life

My heartbeat

This is me

Forever changing

It remains unchanged

Stability is my heartbeat.

Never walk away from true friend. When you see some fault, be patient and realize that nobody is perfect. I am not perfect but I can always be a real friend.

I have come to accept the feeling of not knowing where I am going. And I have trained myself to love it. Because it is only when we are suspended in mid-air with no landing in sight, that we force our wings to unravel and alas begin our flight. And as we fly, we still may not know where we are going to. But the miracle is in the unfolding of the wings. You may not know where you’re going, but you know that so long as you spread your wings, the winds will carry you.
